Looking for delicious breakfast ideas our kids will enjoy can be a challenge. Instead of pancakes we chose to make tasty crepes with apple cinnamon filling. Crepes are easier than you might think, and because they are so thin they cook more quickly than pancakes.
The little chefs started by taking turns measuring out the ingredients for the crepes. Everyone had a great time using the whisk to stir up the batter.
Here's the Recipe:
•2 cups milk
•1 1/3 cup flour
•1 tablespoon vegetable oil
•1/2 teaspoon baking powder
•1 tablespoon sugar
As we cooked the crepes, the kids took turns watching the process. Using a ladle, the batter is poured into a very hot pan (all the while, tilting and moving the pan so that the batter evenly and thinly spreads out). After about 2 minutes use a spatula to flip the crepe, it just needs about a minute more and voila, it is done! Pile the hot crepes upon one another (they can also be stored this way for use at a later time).
Moms helped our little chefs use peelers to peel the apples. Everyone had a butter knife for dicing up the apples for our filling. They did a great job chopping up four apples (we used Macintosh), and also measured out 1 tbsp of honey, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, and about a tablespoon of butter. The apples were cooked over medium low heat until done.
Finally it was time to fill our delicious crepes and get eating! It was hard to wait and a couple of our Junior Chefs couldn't resist taking bites of the crepe before they were filled. We all had a chance to taste our yummy creations. What a delicious treat we made!
Another delicious time at Junior Chef! If you haven't checked out this wonderful program, check out the calendar and sign up. It is a great program for kids ages 2+. We have fun in the kitchen and are always amazed to see how proud the children are of their culinary creations!
