So did you go out on vote this past Monday? Did you explain to your kids why we go out and fill out the ballot sheets?
Getting your little one involved is a great way to get the entire family to participate. Explain to them that you are going to "pick a leader" for your neighbourhood. Someone who will "help" them and who are looking out for their best interests. Taking them on a "discovery" trip to vote with you can be exciting and informative. Our little guy is four and was thrilled to hand the paper to the volunteer and show our ID for verification. He thought the "secret" voting booth was cool and asked about why we were selecting the individuals that we did. "What makes them a good leader?" " Can I be a leader one day?" were some of the inquiries he had and taking the time to answer him had us thinking about our choices as well. A learning experience for all! Handing in our ballots to to the automated box was the highlight. He was mesmorized and wanted to open up the box to see where the ballot went. This gave everyone in the room a good chuckle and again opened the door for more discussion.
