Kids CBC and momstown Milton had a blast bringing literacy to life to the Milton Community at their "On the Road Event". On March 15, 2014 hundreds of very lucky children had the opportunity to meet some of their favorite characters from Kids CBC at the Milton Centre of the Arts. We had the pleasure of having Patty, who is celebrating 20 years with Kids CBC, Super Why, Bookaboo and Huckle join us for fun and games.
Kids CBC programming offers children a fun and exciting way to learn. The program Bookaboo encourages children and grown-ups to share their love of reading together. Bookaboo is a world famous puppy who plays in a rock band! In order to be able to perform and have a rocking good time, our rock star needs to read a story a day to get his “Bojo” going. With the help of some great celebrities, Bookaboo gets his motivation to perform and wows the crowds!
Busytown Mysteries introduces deductive reasoning to our little ones. It gets them asking questions to help solve the mystery of the day. Asking questions like Why, How, Who and What is a great way to get our little ones thinking and coming up with solutions to problems.
Super Why is a wonderful program that encourages children to learn to read. It helps give our preschoolers the skills that they need to actually pick up a book and read it on their own. In every episode the characters have a problem to solve and need to use social skills as well as reading, vocabulary and spelling skills to help find the solution.
Finally our very special host Patty, is on an award winning segment called Kids Canada. It introduces are children to different areas of Canada and allows them the opportunity to see what our beautiful country has to offer. This includes our wonderful landscape, foods, musical groups and so much more!
KidsCBC is focused on our children having fun while learning. At our event on Saturday the kids had many stations that they could explore and some were even lucky enough to be on camera! There were computer stations where our preschoolers had the opportunity to log on to the Kids CBC site and play the great games that encourage all their learning skills. There are matching games, puzzles, stories to read and/or have read to them and some great art games.
There was a beading station where our kids could make their own bookmarks. This was a great craft to get them spelling their names but also encouraged eye hand coordination. momstown Milton sponsored 2 fun crafts that turned our little munchkins into Superheroes! The kids had the opportunity to make their very own cape with the letter S and masks and decorated them with star stickers because they are all literary superstars! Letter recognition is the first step to sounding out letters for reading. It was a lot of fun watching them emulate their favorite Super Why characters once their crafts were complete!
We were all very excited to have Bookaboo bring one of his favorite books to share with us. Patty read Stanley’s Party to our kids and it was so much fun! Our little ones were on the edge of their seats to see what would happen next! We could see why Bookaboo has this on his list of favorites!
momstown Milton is thrilled to have been part of such a wonderful event and we would like to thank Kids CBC for choosing Milton as one of their stops across Ontario. To see just how much fun we had, check out our photo album!
