The skies were a crisp, clear blue during the early evening of Thursday, May 29, 2014, as savvy shoe shoppers flocked to The Shoe Company’s grand opening in Milton (1160 Steeles Avenue East). The momstown Milton team was enthralled by the scene of shopping elegance from the moment we walked the red carpet entrance and into a bright and spacious shoe mecca.
As moms, we are well accustomed to balancing multiple priorities and demands on our time. And while shopping can be a delightful escape into the world of retail therapy, it can also be a real-life necessity. How many times have you said to yourself, wow, has my little one outgrown his/her runners again? So, off you go, diaper bag in one hand, stroller being pushed by the other hand, and with your wallet balancing on top of your head, you charge into the store.
At The Shoe Company, you will find a bright and airy oasis-like shopping experience. The selection for all ages is exceptional and best of all; the prices are phenomenal, which helps with the budget-balancing act. Bruce Dinan, President and CEO of The Shoe Company, expressed how Milton’s fast paced growth and family-oriented community makes it an ideal spot for a new store. The Milton location, Dinan explained, has a clean and crisp appeal, which is in line with the company’s latest design philosophy. Products are in plain view and easily accessible to customers – a feature that will be well appreciated by busy shopping moms. Furthermore, Dinan expressed how enthusiastic the company is about their partnership with Jeanne Beker.
Canadian fashion icon, Beker, known for having hosted Fashion Television (1985-2012), worked with The Shoe Company designers to launch a shoe, handbag, and accessories collection. “So thrilled to be here,” Beker enthusiastically expressed, as she took the microphone and wowed the crowd at the Milton grand opening. Beker revealed it was her first visit to Milton and shared what has made fashion grow significantly over the years: the fact that it’s become accessible to everyone – everywhere. As an experienced fashion editor, Beker shared that she revels in working with The Shoe Company’s design team as they create sophisticated, chic, and functional pieces that speak to us all.
The crowd murmured appreciatively when, during the question and answer session; a little girl walked confidently up to Beker and asked her to help pick out a new pair of shoes.
When asked what lessons Beker has learned over the years, she says that above all, we should love ourselves and appreciate our beauty and think about the blessings in our lives: good health; good frame of mind Instead of being critical of ourselves, we can choose to live in grace and gratitude. Often, Beker explains, we compare ourselves to others. Instead, she encourages us to look at ourselves as true originals with no comparison. “Celebrate your originality,” she says with a warm smile.
As moms, we can certainly relate to the temptation of falling into the trap of self-judgment, especially, when round-the-clock infant feedings threaten our sleep sanity in the early days and then later on, when we’re running from the dry cleaners to the ballet studio to the soccer field. While you’re doing all of that walking and running around Milton, be sure to pop into The Shoe Company. Whether you need sensible flats, sassy heels for a night on the town, or back-to-school kids shoes; you’ll find it all.
