At the recent momstown Milton Baby Essentials workshop sponsored by Wal-Mart, we asked our members what baby items they couldn’t live without. We’ve gathered the top answers here, along with a couple of our own favourite items.
For a nursing mom, this is definitely the number one useful item to have. Being able to pump a bottle of milk for your baby allows you a bit more freedom than you might otherwise have. You can have the occasional night out, you can continue to breast feed even after you return to work, and if for some reason your baby is unable to nurse from the breast, you can still give them all the benefits of breast milk. We all agreed that spending the extra money for a double pump ws well worth it!
It’s not surprising so many parents chose a playpen as one of their top essentials. They provide a safe place to put your baby when you can’t give them your full attention – when you’re cooking dinner for example – and can also serve as a portable crib for travelling.
While it’s certainly possible to get by without a change table, they can make life a lot easier. A change table allows you to keep everything needed for diaper changes in one place. Short on room? Consider a change table/dresser combination.
Babies have a lot of paraphernalia (really, they should come with their own pack mule), and something to carry it all in is a must. Luckily there are a lot of options these days. One of our favourites is the Baby Cargo Georgi Bag; a modern, stylish bag that is highly functional. Tons of pockets to help organize your items and specially branded Go Grommets that slide right onto your stroller handles for go anywhere convenience.
Not everyone agrees with using pacifiers, and that’s okay. If you are going to use one, you want to be sure it’s not going to interfere with proper dental development. That’s why we really like Tommee Tippee pacifiers, which are designed to support the natural shape of your baby’s palate.
Of course, everyone is different, and what is ‘essential’ for one mom might not be as important to another. Leave a comment below and let us know your favourite baby essentials. We’d love to hear what items you couldn’t live without!
